Dr. King play - 1986. Marshall Smith, musical director and playwright Etha Gray in planning session.
This montage of scenes is from the King play performed at the KiMo Theater in ABQ in 1986.
The featured star of the show was Mr. James Robinson, who made a very convincing Dr. M. L. King, Jr.
An interesting aside to his performance is that he called me on the morning of the show with the worst case of laryngitis I had ever seen.
"Dr." Gray mixed him some lemon, honey and Old Crow whiskey and asked his wife to have him drink it.
Between scenes he could not speak. Once on stage, his voice was very strong. Leaving some to ponder if he had been possesed by Dr. King. Hmm! He was speechless for a week afterwards.
Despite the large amount of dialogue, each one performed magnificently.
I wish I was still in contact with them all. They each gave their hearts to this project.
