Stages Past Two

"I Dreamed a Dream"
February, 2002
Mexia Public Schools Admin. Building
616 North Red River St.
Mexia, Texas
"My Son, The Buffalo Soldier"
Elise Vigil and father  - Play leads
Daisy Reed - Musician
When you speak of the 'consumate' musicians, you have to think of Daisy Reed.  Tell her what you want, then leave her alone. She delivers everytime.
Judy Chambers - MC. This Mexia City Council member  proved herself a real trouper as M.C.
AuShain Venner reciting - "Our Forefathers Speak"
Etha Gray & Bianca Vigil performing
"My Son, The Buffalo Soldier."
""SoJourner Truth"
Sara Sims relating the story of Crispus Attucks inciting the Revolution War. Another who received the part at the last minute. Being a professional Story Teller, it suited her well.
The cast of "I Dreamed a Dream" - Play, February, 2002
Etha Gray as Harriet Tubman
These scenes show some of the various talent available in Mexia. Each of the actors performed as pros.
Bianca Vigil was the youngest and only got her part at the last minute, but acted as if she had rehearsed for a month.
Elise's father got his part the day before the play, due to a last minute dropout. However, the audience could not tell.
AuShain has been on stage since he was five.
I love working with young people on stage. They're like sponges, they 'soak up' direction without question.
The Public Schools Museum houses information on the Mexia Public School Districs from 1892 - 1968, which includes the all-black Dunbar High School. Integration came in 1968. Please visit . It's one of a kind and quite interesting.
